Robert R. Laughlin

Robert R. Laughlin was born in Michigan on February 25, 1840, the son of John Laughlin and Jane Cuttle. His family arrived in Allamakee county in 1849 and settled in Post Twp. He married Jane Dobson of Post Twp. on January 2, 1861, in Postville, Iowa. They became the parents of three children. Robert was apparently a farmer and a minister of the United Brethren Church. A church was built in Post Twp. near his home on "Righteous Run" in 1869. By 1880 Robert and his family had moved to Postville and were living on Church Street. By 1883 he had left Postville and was living in Toledo, Iowa. By 1900 he was living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he died in 1907. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in downtown Colorado Springs. His widow moved to Barbarton, Ohio, and lived with family members there. She was still living at the time of the 1920 census. She is not buried with him.
